Fall 2016 - Studied the Latino genre of Magical Realism, learned about different Latin@ authors and leaders, wrote our own Magical Realism mini-narrative.
Winter/Spring 2017 - Latino Film Studies: Studied the issues of Mexican Immigration in the U.S., the "War on Drugs" in Colombia, the Salvadoran Civil War and child soldiers, the Mexican Zapatista Movement, and Che Guevara as an example of leftist movements in Latino America. Products include monthly socratic seminars and the below project.
Winter 2017 - Our Heroes and Their Journeys: Pondered and discussed the question, "What does it mean to be a hero?" Interviewed someone that we found to be a "hero" and wrote a narrative based on their story. Worked in groups of four to create a short film based on one of the group member's narratives.
Spring 2017 - The Motorcycle Diaries: Read Che Guevara's Diaries from his original trip around Latinoamerica where he discovered the injustices he would later devote his life to fighting.
Spring 2017 - Personal Poems: Wrote poems to describe how we had grown and changed that year.
